Alex & Eric {Hampton Park Wedding}

The last wedding I photographed in February was an intimate affair with only the couple and their families. Alex and Eric wanted a small but elegant destination wedding in Charleston. Like usual, the weather in the Lowcountry can be unpredictable. Right as we prepared for the First Look, the rain started pouring. I suggested my alma mater, College of Charleston, so that we could not only capture portraits with classic historic structures the Holy City is known for but to also stay dry. Randolph Hall and the Cistern area offered a perfect backdrop and refuge during the storm. By the time we wrapped up portraits, the rain had let up enough for us to stick to the original plan of a Hampton Park wedding. Though the weather wasn’t as cooperative as anyone would have liked, Alex and Eric remained flexible and adapted to the circumstances. The bride was prepared for chilly weather with a bridal coat. This accessory was great cause not only did it help keep her warm, but it also created a different fashionable look for some of their portraits. And by deciding on Hampton Park as the venue, they had a covered option for the ceremony and were able to wed in the gazebo.

Hampton Park is one of my favorite city parks, especially for weddings. It’s away from the touristy part of town and is frequented by mostly locals only. Its vast acreage offers such eclectic natural backdrops as mossy crape myrtles, large oak trees, and colorful planted florals. Even on an overcast day, these natural elements contribute to the beauty of a photo. Congratulations Alex and Eric!
