Alyssa’s Senior Portraits

Since moving back to Charleston, I’ve proactively been pursuing numerous avenues in the freelance photography and video market here in the Lowcountry. One endeavor involves joining the team of Riverland Studios as one of their several photographers. Working with Juliet and Mat has been great, and I feel fortunate to have found out about this opportunity (thanks Laura!).

This is a senior portrait session with Alyssa. For her photos, she wanted a few highlights of Charleston; so, we went to a few spots in historic downtown and Folly Beach. To add a contemporary flair, we made a stop at the graffiti wall on James Island. We lucked out that a summer storm had stopped right before the photo shoot, but the difference in temperature still caused my lenses to fog for the first 15 minutes. It can make for a nice dreamy effect, but humidity is far from a camera’s friend. Alyssa was also game for just about anything, which included climbing onto an electrical box while wearing heels. The one thing I couldn’t quite give her was a photograph with a live tiger. I told her had she been in Athens, Ohio, I could have introduced to a big cat caretaker. Instead, we settled for a gigantic spray painted tiger.
