Kirsten and Hunter are undoubtedly one of my favorite couples of 2015. When I first met them, they talked mostly about how they wanted to create a fun party for their friends and family – a vision I could definitely support. They decided on a newer venue – The Gadsden House – which is in the heart of Downtown Charleston. Not only is this renovated historic property beautiful, but its added perks of an ornate courtyard and on-site bridal suite make it a unique event hosting space that embodies the best of Charleston.

Their ceremony was an intimate affair in the courtyard. During cocktail hour, the space was flipped to provide additional seating for the reception. A perfect idea to maximize the space’s potential and to accommodate the additional 100+ guests attending the celebration. The party truly kicked off when local band, The Midnight City, started their set. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to them acoustically during happy hour at Rita’s on Folly, but in a wedding setting their ability to energize the crowd created a lively atmosphere perfect for photographing.

As the party at The Gadsden House winded down, Kirsten and Hunter departed through a barrage of tossed potpourri to hop on a rickshaw to take them to their after party at Trio. The newlyweds asked me to tag along for the beginning of the after party. When they asked me about this months earlier, my initial response was, “You know that’s probably going to be a lot of blackmail photos of your friends?!” But it was a blast documenting photos in the club. There may have been a bottle of champagne accompanied by sparklers passed around – but I’ll leave that to one’s imagination as no after party pics are included in this post. ūüėČ

From the getting ready to the after party, the one thing I noticed was the abundance of love not just between Kirsten and Hunter but shared among their family and friends. It is lovely and powerful to witness a collective of people choose joy and to celebrate life. It’s the kind of atmosphere¬†where my 9-hour day feels like a mere blink, but the playback the photos provide continues to reveal so many special moments from this wedding. Congratulations Kirsten and Hunter!

A northern gal and a southern guy met while vacationing on a Carnival cruise ship. Specifically while in the port of Ochos Rios at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville. Chris sent over a complimentary cocktail and their love story officially began. After one year of long distance dating, Sarah moved south and eventually the couple settled into Asheville along with Chris’ three sons. After seven years together, Chris proposed to Sarah while they hiked a path along the Blue Ridge Parkway.¬†

For their Folly Beach wedding, the couple wanted a relaxed yet festive affair. Sarah said she envisioned a beach glam, sexy Havana night theme. Light ethereal colors of blush, coral, ivory and gold accents were used in floral design and decor. The large pink Doreen peonies and blush roses offered a soft, romantic elements on the rustic family style tables. Sarah’s ivory and gold embellished gown is the quintessential vision of elegant.
After a mid-afternoon beach ceremony, everyone gathered at the Pelican Watch Shelter for a lowcountry meal by Jubilee Catering and plenty of libations. The couple’s friend, Tommy Calloway, mixed the music while everyone danced under strings of cafe lights. Sarah and Chris’ wedding night was a picturesque beachside party celebrating with their closest friends and family. Congrats

RandiKevin_WhitePointGardens_PriscillaThomas_44

This sweet North Carolina couple decided on a destination getaway for their nuptials. Randi envisioned¬†Kevin’s and her White Point Gardens wedding to be an intimate affair that was elegant yet relaxed. They wanted close friends and family to enjoy their time in the Holy City and to celebrate this special occasion¬†in their lives. Randi and Kevin met one night at a get together at an acquaintance’s home. The group decided to head to a bar and piled into a truck. The limited space meant for some creative human tetris. Randi ended up sitting on Kevin’s lap, which was a perfect conversation starter. That chance meeting led to romance and now marriage.

The couple decided on a First Look so they could get the most out of Downtown Charleston’s beautiful architecture and landscapes. This also meant they could head to the celebration sooner. During their ceremony at White Pointe Gardens, the couple passed two ribbons around to all the guests so each person in attendance could add a knot gradually combining the two ribbons into one. Once it got back to Randi and Kevin, they tied the final knot symbolizing their union. After being announced husband and wife, everyone gathered at Poogan’s Porch, one of Charleston’s oldest fine dining restaurants, for a gourmet meal. Congrats Randi and Kevin!

Ever since Aimee and Justin started dating, they’ve attended an annual wine festival in Ocean City, Maryland. With years of memories, it was a perfect chance for Justin to propose. The couple took a walk on the beach around sunset. With the beautiful scenery in a town that means so much to them, he asked Aimee to marry him. Of course she said, “Yes!”

They are planning for a spring wedding at the historic Boone Hall Plantation. The Cotton Dock is a perfect waterside venue that is just a short walk away from the well-known Avenue of Oaks. Aimee envisions a rustic vintage theme with pale pink and gold colors. Since they are marrying in classic Southern outdoors, they decided on a different backdrop for their Charleston engagement photos. The streets of Downtown Charleston embody eclectic architecture and backdrops. Within just a couple of blocks we were able to find colorful walls, oak trees, and a cobblestone road.

Congrats to the lucky couple and enjoy some of my favorites from their session!

HollyChris_MagnoliaPlantation_PriscillaThomasPhoto_121

Holly and Chris envisioned an intimate Magnolia Plantation wedding with close friends and family. With a spring celebration, Holly wanted soft but inviting¬†colors of peach, mint, dark blue and a light¬†brown. Out of the Garden created bountiful bouquets with eclectic flora that included¬†peach roses, succulents, and lamb’s ear. This array of blooms brightened the green backdrop of Magnolia Plantation’s Conservatory, which serves as a third venue option on the property and is perfect for smaller celebrations. The couple married on a nearby manicured lawn. Holly’s father, a judge, officiated. Chris surprised everyone with a one-song tune he strummed on¬†his ukulele. After sweetly serenading his bride, the pair kissed and were officially introduced as husband and wife.

Holly describes Chris as funny, charming, thoughtful, heart of gold, tall, blonde and handsome. Chris describes Holly as unassuming, humble, with a smile and aura about her that you can’t help but fall in love – and laughs way too hard at cat jokes. It’s evident that they’re head-over-heels in love and the funny thing is they grew up in the same midwestern community but didn’t connect until they were older. Chris played on the same baseball team as Holly’s brother in middle school and their parents even knew each other. But it wasn’t until they ran into each other at a work event that something more developed. They’ve been together ever since. Congratulations Holly and Chris!
