This past August I photographed Boone Hall Plantation Bridal portraits with lovely bride-to-be, Amanda. The heat index undoubtedly neared 100 degrees. When temperatures reach unfriendly conditions my first priority is the comfort and safety of my client. For most of the session, I kept Amanda in shade and overexposed the image. My assistant discovered a secondary use for a reflector by using it to fan Amanda between setting up shots. Her mother also brought a handheld fan and we tried to drive to the locations rather than walking the entire grounds. Adapting for the weather paid off because her bridal portraits are stunning.
Casey and Ryan found their dream wedding venue at the Farmhouse at Veritas. The historic country mansion dates back to 1839. It rests at the bottom of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is surrounded by vines growing from the neighboring Veritas Vineyards. Ashlee, of Ashlee Virginia Events, worked with bride Casey to create an elegant, organic design that would compliment the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. The bride’s design inspiration came from her favorite designer – Kate Spade. The color palette of neutrals, mauve, and soft pinks complimented with metallic and glitter accents embody the designer’s contemporary chic style with whimsical twists. Casey’s wedding gown possessed all these design elements with her non-traditional choice of Hayley Paige’s Dori – a sheer, halter neck high crystal bodice that flows into a flounce skirt of alabaster tulle, full horse hair, and chapel train. Her bridesmaids were simply regal in BHLDN’s ivory Annabelle dress designed by Jenny Yoo, which they adorned with lattice crystal belts. Floral designs included Cafe au Lait dahlias, blush roses, pink & white ranunculus, and fresh herbs like sage flowers.
I’m excited to share my first Virginia wedding! Every week the couple go hiking; so, having their wedding in the midst of nature with trails, a lake, and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance made perfect sense. This all inclusive spot known as Montfair Resort Farm is located just outside of Charlottesville. The couple first met at University of Virginia’s inaugural Entrepreneurship Cup 2009 in the finals. However, it wasn’t until a few months later when they ran into each other again at an Entrepreneurship Society dinner that a romantic spark was kindled. Ashley’s now infamous yell across the room, “Hey, weren’t you the guy who presented something on ketchup?” somehow encouraged Will to connect with her via email a couple of days later. Will is a self-described southern, libertarian, Catholic scientist who enjoys being outdoors when not running his medical device start-up or being a research professor. Ashley shares Will’s love for the outdoors, which pairs well with her travel-enthusiast nature. When she’s not working her day job in marketing, she is focused on her side bakery business that specializes in fudge.
For their late summer wedding, they chose a color palette mixed with warm earthy tones and bright accents. A motif of banner flags was used on the program and pie toppers. Floral design included Juliet roses, craspedia, gyp, and coral & maroon dahlias. Other sweet touches included the buttons on Ashley’s gown belonged to her grandmother and Will’s father officiated the vow renewal. After an outdoor ceremony overlooking the mountains, guests celebrated with the couple in a cabin-esque pavilion on the lake. Congratulations Ashley and Will!

This romance began during a night out with friends and may have entailed lighting their hands on fire. – to clarify, the couple took a Statue of Liberty shot. Brittany’s and Mark’s fiery beginning led to an even hotter wedding. Their August nuptials were held on one of the hottest days of summer with the heat index reaching 106. But scorching weather didn’t stop the celebration. After a ceremony at the First Baptist Church of Charleston, Brittany and Mark headed to the William Aiken House to dine on cuisine by FISH and rock out to The Mighty Kicks. After a whirlwind weekend having a destination wedding in Charleston, they boarded a plane to Paris to start their next adventure as wife and husband. Congratulations to Brittany and Mark!

Spring in Charleston means blooming azaleas, oyster roasts, and newlyweds. After being paired together in a wedding party three years ago, Brandi and Adam were inseparable. The couple fell in love with Charleston when they celebrated their two year anniversary in the Holy City and later decided to have a destination wedding here. Their wedding is a picturesque ethereal chic soiree with vintage inspired style and hues of white, pink, and gold. McCrady’s Restaurant is in the heart of Downtown Charleston and embodies the classic architecture of the historic South. Congratulations to Brandi and Adam!
