What better way to start off the New Year than with a celebration of love with an intimate wedding at Middleton Place! Caroline and Luke have a “why wait?” philosophy and decided to embrace a quasi elopement in Charleston, SC. Two friends and Caroline’s daughter were present for the couple’s nuptials beneath an oak tree and even stuck around for some portrait fun.
I loved Caroline’s self-description in one of her responses to my Getting to Know You questionnaire: “I never meet a stranger and I love people. I live by the saying, ‘rules are only suggestions!’ and Luke is just a nice guy who landed him a color-outside-of-the-lines kind of girl.” That let me know they were up for about anything, which is good because I’m not shy about asking couples to push some boundaries for the sake of creating unique portraits. One of the reasons I enjoy photographing elopements and smaller weddings is because we usually have ample time for portraits. The gift of those extra minutes allows for more exploration and play with photos, which can lead to some stunning photos. Congratulations to Caroline and Luke!
