Halie & Trey { Wingate Place Wedding }

Last month, I had the pleasure of photographing a Wingate Place wedding.  I’m excited to share some of my favorite photos from Halie and Trey’s wedding day!  The couple opted for a beautiful destination wedding in Charleston, and their Wingate Place wedding is the epitome of classic elegance.  The day began at the historic Planter’s Inn where Halie and her bridesmaids were readying in the St. Philip Suite.  The suite has a lovely cityscape view of Charleston’s market.  In addition to the view, there is a wonderful mural painted on exposed brick that we had to incorporate into the photos.  I’ve photographed brides getting ready in this suite a few times, and simply love the abundance of natural window light and mixture of textures it provides for photographs.

Halie’s choice of an off-the-shoulder Casablanca wedding gown paired with a low, swept back up-do is reminiscent of classic Hollywood.  Her bridal style instantly reminded me of such regal beauties as Grace Kelly and Ingrid Bergman.  After slipping on her champagne Romy heels by Jimmy Choo, Halie was ready to meet her future husband at the church.  The couple’s ceremony took place at St. Patrick Catholic Church.  The historic cathedral was established in The Holy City in 1837 and has served as an iconic place of worship ever since. In addition to a Catholic service, Halie and Trey were married by the priest from their parish in New York.  Father Quinn shared fond stories of the couple and their involvement in the church back home in The Big Apple.  After sharing their “I dos”, the couple were officially wed and ready to celebrate!

Halie and Trey arrived in style in a classic car that’s nicknamed “Roger.”  This timeless ride reflects their design inspiration for the wedding – a classic black and white color palette.  Their reception canvas was the stunning Wingate Plantation.  The plantation’s presence dates back to 1707.  Over the centuries it has changed hands and after the Civil War was parceled off into smaller sections.  The farmhouse on the property was constructed in the 1930s, and today, the grounds are managed for timber and wildlife.  The spacious land and majestic large oak tree make a Wingate Plantation wedding a splendid experience.  Some of my favorite features of their wedding include the champagne tower, emerald green vintage sofa, and the rustic style family table for the wedding party.  These unique elements elevated the romantic and elegant atmosphere of the reception.

Guests arrived on vintage VW buses from a Lowcountry Valet.  Upon arrival, they were treated to champagne, Southern cuisine, and live music by Emerald Empire Band.  Before opening the dance floor, there were some delightful toasts that brought a few tears and plenty of laughter.  After dinner service, the lights dimmed and colored uplighting set the stage for everyone to get down.  Dancing into the night sounds like a great way to spend the first evening as husband and wife to me.

Congratulations to Halie and Trey!  Leading up to their wedding, I also got to know Trey’s parents, Susie and Gordie.  Be sure to check out some sweet moments of those two from the wedding day.  Thank you both again for having the Priscilla Thomas Photography team document such a lovely day in your lives.
